INTRODUCTION
Unfortunately, nowadays the number of people, especially teenagers, affected by this eating disorder is alarmingly increasing. So, I'm sure you have heard of anorexia but would you be able to answer the following questions right now :
Can anorexia be prevented?
Why do people suffer from anorexia?
What can I do if a friend of mine suffers from anorexia?
What effects can it have in the long run?
First,we will learn about this eating disorder in order to be able to answer these and many other questions related to this topic and then we’ll use all the information gathered to create our own project, which will consist in launching a campaign to prevent and fight anorexia in your school.
In order to have an overall view of this illness, we are going to work in groups of three. Each member of the group will adopt a specific role so that you can get the information from different points of view:a nutritionist, a psychologist and somebody worried about a friend who is or may be an anorexic.
THE TASK
The final task is to launch a campaign in your school in order to prevent and fight anorexia. The campaign can be developed in different ways:
1. You can write a short play dealing with the topic trying to give different stages in the process of becoming an anorexic. You should also try to present it from different points of view. Finally, you’ll have to role-play it.
2. You can design a leaflet or a display poster trying to give as much information as possible about the illness, its causes and consequences. Once you have it you’ll have to give a talk to present it. You can use a power point to do it.
In order to do the final task you must follow some steps:
-
Find out how much you know about anorexia by answering a questionaire related to it.
-
Get in groups of three and choose a role.
-
Learn about anorexia by clicking on your role and answer the questions given in the "treasure hunts" given.
THE PROCESS
STEP 1: Do this survey in order to be aware of your previous knowledge about the topic.
How much do you know about anorexia?
STEP 2: Choose a role: a psychologists, a nutritionist and the friend or relative.
STEP 3: Follow the instructions for your role.
STEP 4: Put everything together and decide the final task your group is going to do.
STEP 5: Have a look at the evaluation sheet and do your task.
